Bruce's Story :
My first encounter with the 1501 was on an ‘86 ride to Alaska with my wife on a Honda XL600. Mounting the bag required a hard-foam wedge behind the gas cap to level the large touring bag, but it was worth the extra effort. Every one of the bag’s features was used . . . . the rain cover with clear map-pouch window, the hard lower pan in which I stored my 35mm Pentax and three lenses, the internal stiffeners to maximize internal storage space without the bag going “Bob Dole.” Before the 1501, I’d used various European designs, this because I was running a BMW dealership and had access to the best they had to offer. None took the abuse I dished out to the 1501 in Alaska and again a few years later in a ride around Australia. During that ride I even managed to drop the BMW GS80 I was riding in the Darien River in Northern Queensland. In the 30 seconds or so it took me to right the bike, the bag kept my camera gear in the lower case dry. Don’t take this as guarantee, just a demonstration of the bag’s quality. This is a large bag and will not easily fit many of today’s small, oddly shaped tanks, but if you have a bike with a basically flat-top tank design, or are willing to fiddle a bit to make it fit (as I had to do on the Honda D/P bike we rode to Alaska) no bag can be a better friend on a really long, difficult journey.
